The Snowy Project, a
complex engineering marvel, a dream, a national success story, a reality
of hardships, 25 years of hard work, a legend - was also the stage of an
enormous theatre, a play where actors from many nationalities and cultures
performed part one of the transformation of Australia from a conservative
Anglo-Saxon to a tolerant multicultural society.
Fifty years after the legend
of the Snowy Scheme was born, this book revives the less known facts, the
dramas, the emotions, the feelings and the day to day lives of thousands
of workers, who gave their best to the development of a free, young country.
It brings forth the epic vision, the enthusiasm of the early pioneers of
the Snowy and demonstrates in many ways how successfully a multicultural
workforce could and did work.
For readers of history and students
it provides an excellent document for study, supported and illustrated
by descriptions of real events and a great number of original black and
white photos.
As a gift, it will be welcome
by anyone who worked on the Snowy or has any connections with Snowy people.
THE SNOWY - CRADLE OF A NEW AUSTRALIA
