Last years World bronze medal winner, Nicholas Rossi will spearhead the Australian team’s challenge at the World Junior Championships in Biella, Italy commencing Sunday 10th August and concludes with finals on Friday 15th. September.
All the team are current Australian Title holders. Nicholas Rossi won the Precision Throw , Nicholas Cooper the Rapid Throw, Matthew Moffatt the Singles, while Luke Miner partnered Nick Rossi in the Doubles. They will be managed by veteran Coach Louis Magajna who has directed the team at the past two Championships.
Nicholas Rossi 15 years, (NSW Marconi) is a great prospect and should do well in his favourite event as the title’s holder, Percan of Croatia is not contesting the event this year. In his second year at the World Titles, Nicholas as lead partner, should have good prospects for another medal in the Doubles.
Luke Miner 15 years (NSW Panthers) a natural athlete has crossed over sports, having just represented his school in Junior Cricket in Scotland this year. He has a natural throwing style and this will stand him in good stead at the World titles, certainly in the Doubles.
Nicholas Cooper 14 years, (Vic. White) In the Australian Titles, Nicholas won the Rapid Throw title with 18 successful hits from 39 throws for this five minute event. As he has since improved his accuracy - he will be a medal contender.
Matthew Moffatt 15 years (Vic. Blue) This is Matthews first entry at a World level and should give him good experience for a continued career in the sport. An upset in the Singles competition is not out of the question.
The World Championships are conducted by the Federation Internationale de Boules and Fourteen countries will compete. The strong countries to watch are Italy, France and Croatia.
