Slovenian Outstanding Volunteer - St Raphael Slovenian Mission Merrylands
Pekle so pecivo in pripravljale drugo hrano.
Kristina Car came to Australia in 1970 from her native Slovenia with her two sons, Jože and Mario, to join her husband Jože Car. She was very homesick, couldn't speak English and the little family lived for a while with her husband's relatives. She soon found a job in a furniture factory and with both working, they managed to save for a deposit on the house at Wetherill Park, where they still live today. They also found contact with the Slovenian community, gathering around the Slovenian Mission at Merrylands, where the first Slovenian church was located. They helped with the work, while the new church was being built, entered their children into Slovenian school there and the children's choir. With other mothers, Kristina worked at the Mission's social functions, gatherings and children's concerts, cooking, baking, cleaning and other work that needed to be done. Kristina was a part of the working group, sharing the duties for the past 40 years, the last eight years as a leader of the first working group.

PAULA FABIAN
Slovenian Outstanding Senior Citizen - St Raphael Slovenian Mission Merrylands
V zakonu sta se rodila hčerka in sin.
Paula Fabian was born in Slovenia near Nova Gorica during the Italian occupation. She arrived in Australia in 1958 as a proxy bride of a fellow Slovenian immigrant Slavko Fabian. They got married, settled down on his parents' farm in Mona Vale and had two children. Many years of hard work later the family subdivided the land and built a home in a section that now bears their name – Fabian Place. Paula and her family had become connected to the Sydney Slovenian Community very early on, by attending Slovenian mass and social events organised by Slovenian priests in Paddington and later at St Raphael's Slovenian Mission in Merrylands. Paula's daughter played the piano as an act in the first Slovenian Youth Concert. Paula actively participated in many fund raisers for the Mission, she also provided flowers for the church, stalls and garage sales. Her consistent support of our mission has been much appreciated through the decades and even though she has had to slow down due to age, she still comes around and helps as much as she can.
Good on you, Paula! We wish there were more like you !
BRANKO FABJANČIČ
Slovenian Outstanding Volunteer Triglav Mounties Group Sydney
Predsednik Kluba Triglav in predsednik Kluba Mounties sta predala priznanje Branku
Branko’s whole family became part of the Slovenian community from the very beginning and became specially active at Triglav Club. Branko was involved in most activities of the younger generation and played tennis and soccer. He attended Slovenian Saturday School and received an exceptional mark for Slovenian language for his HSC. In those times, Branko and his later wife Julie also performed in the Junior Drama Group. After finishing TAFE and completing an Accountancy Certificate he accepted a voluntary job as the treasurer of the Triglav Club. Later he also became a member of the club’s Committee, a position he has been holding for the past 25 years. Family circumstances resulted in Branko's re-evaluation of his work and life. He decided to quit his job as a Senior Manager of an International manufacturing company to care for his aging parents who were dealing with serious health issues. However, his former boss, who once called Branko “a true gentleman”, understood Branko’s need to support his family, but also appreciated his skills, knowledge and his commitment to his job. He allowed him to do a part time work with the flexibility to care for his parents. Although Branko was extremely busy caring for his ailing parents and his own family, he has continued his active role at the Club Triglav during the amalgamation with the Panthers and now with the Mounties. He always tries to ensure club's continual success and future. Branko Fabjančič is truly worthy of this award.
