Slovenia’s May Day Holiday Combines Tradition, Music, and a Two-Day Break
Today, May 1—known as Praznik dela —is a state recognised public holiday in Slovenia. Festivities begin on the evening of April 30 with the glow of traditional bonfires (kresovanje) and the sound of early-morning brass bands welcoming the day. Across towns and villages, people gather for picnics, community events, and relaxed celebrations, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.

Promising Ride for Archer at AusCycling Nationals
Archer Montgomery a third generation Slovenian and his dad, Joel Montgomery, recently competed in the 2026 Auscycling BMX Racing National Series Round 2. Overall, Archer rode very well in his motos and progressed through to the ⅛. While he may have missed out on a top 4 finish to move through, he ended up ranked 35th out of 70 boys in his age group, with Joel happy making it through his motos. Archer is looking forward to another opportunity to qualify for the World’s in Macarthur late May.

Important Information for Slovenian Citizens in Australia
Your Address in Slovenian Registers
For Slovenian citizens living abroad, the only address that matters is the address registered in the Slovenian registry.
That address is used for all formal communications with you from the Slovenian government, including for election notices, pension notices etc.
When you arrive in Australia, or change your residential address in Australia, you need to ensure that this address is regularly updated and accurate.
If you need to amend or check your data in the Slovenian register
( such as the registered address) you must email the Embassy of Slovenia in Canberra on sloembassy.canberra@gov.si. They will check your data and correct it if necessary.

Pater Darko obvešča :
Nedelja 3.maja je 5. Velikonočna nedelja. Pri sv. maši poje mešani zbor.
Nedelja 3.maja začenjamo naše Šmarnice. Spoznavali bomo Papeža sv. Janeza Pavla II. Ob 30-letnici njegovega prvega obiska naše Slovenije. Šmarnice imamo pri naših sv. mašah vsak četrtek ob 10.30 in vsako nedeljo ob 9.30 dopoldne.
Prihodnja nedelja je 6. Velikonočna, Papeška Nedelja ob 1. obletnici izvolitve Papeža Leona XIV. in materinski dan. Po obhajilu bomo zapeli zahvalno pesem in molili za svetega očeta.
V Wollongongu – Figtreeju je sv. maša prihodnjo nedeljo, 10.maja., ob 4.00 popoldne – in vsako 2. nedeljo v mesecu, v hrvaški cerkvi Marije Kraljice, 7-9 bellevue road.

40 let Škofije Parramatta
Letos 8.aprila. je naša škofija Parramatta praznovala svojo 40-letnico. Zahvalna sv. maša bo v nedeljo, 31.maja., ob 2.00 popoldne. Naš Škof Msgr. Vincent Long Van Nguyen posebej vabi predstavnike: družine, posameznike, zakonce, zastopnike iz vsake župnije po 3. prijavitese v naši župnijski pisarni.
Sv. mašo bo vodil apostolski nuncij Nadškof Msgr. Charles Balvo, ki se bo takrat tudi poslovil od Avstralije, letos junija odhaja v pokoj ob svoji 75-letnici.
Kapelica Memorial and How to Donate
The committee for the restoration of the Kapelica Memorial at Rookwood cemetery met on the 22 February 2026. The committee determined that the project will be divided into 4 parts:
1. Kapelica repairs and painting – the design of the kapelica will remain the same, but repairs will be required to restore it to its original state.
2. Landscaping – the garden area in and around the Kapelica will be given a fresh look with new planting and restored seating.
3. Memorial Stone –a memorial stone will form part of the landscaping design with all the names of priests and nuns who have served at St Raphaels.
4. Funding – generosity of the Slovenian community will help us achieve our goal. Details for anyone wishing to donate are:
