On 17 July 1866, Slovenian poet and teacher Kristina Šuler was born in Kropa. She was considered as one of the leading Slovenian women poets of her era. Her lyrical poetry, published in journals such as Ljubljanski zvon and Slovenka, explored themes of emotion, personal struggle, and nature.

A Slice of Slovenia: Restaurant Skol, Ljubljana

Among the many roles Walter Šuber fulfils within our Slovenian community, he is currently in Slovenia where he represented Slovenians in New South Wales at the Meeting of the Members of the Council of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad and Around the World, which was held late last week.
While making the most of the Slovenian summer, Walter and Kristine, have been exploring the charming streets and picturesque alleyways of Ljubljana. During their visit, they stopped at Restaurant Skol, a welcoming restaurant with cozy decor and traditional music, located in the heart of the city and renowned for its warm hospitality, relaxed atmosphere, and authentic Slovenian cuisine.

FIFA World Cup 2026: Weekly Round-Up by Zac Limare

Photo: Claudio Thoma/Keystone/AP
The World Cup has reached its final stage after a thrilling few weeks of drama, upsets and world-class performances. Spain and Argentina have emerged as the two most consistent teams throughout the tournament, with Spain’s possession-based style and attacking quality proving difficult to contain, while Argentina have continued to show the composure and experience that has made them one of the world’s best sides. The knockout rounds have delivered plenty of surprises, with several highly rated teams falling short while the two finalists handled the pressure when it mattered most.
The semi-finals produced two unforgettable encounters. Spain pulled off one of the biggest results of the tournament, defeating defending champions France in a high-quality contest that showcased their technical brilliance and confidence on the ball. In the other semi-final, Argentina produced a stunning late comeback against England, scoring in the 85th and 91st minutes to overturn the match and book their place in the final in dramatic fashion. It was a reminder of Argentina’s resilience and their ability to find a way through when the pressure is at its highest.
The final on Monday morning at 5am will see Spain face Argentina in a clash between two footballing giants. The final promises to be a fascinating battle between Spain’s technical dominance and Argentina’s experience, with the world title on the line.
