On tomorrow’s show, we will mark the first anniversary of the VOSA Newsletter by reflecting on its progress, exploring its impact so far, and looking ahead to plans for expanding and strengthening the service. VOSA Newsletter Celebrates One Year
Tomorrow marks one year since the VOSA Newsletter was first distributed to the community. This initiative was established to fill the email communication gap left by the loss of the weekly Obvestila emails, previously prepared by the late Martha Magajna. I was entrusted with the responsibility to continue Martha’s role and oversee the weekly distribution of the VOSA Newsletter, with from the entire VOSA team.
The first edition was distributed on Friday, April 11, 2025, and it has significantly expanded and evolved since then. Over the past year, we’ve had the pleasure of featuring both local and international talent, highlighting local events, and keeping you informed about what is happening at our organisations across NSW and ACT. We’ve also showcased moments that capture the very essence of Slovenian culture, identity, and traditions. It’s heart-warming to witness the impact this weekly communication has had on the community, and seeing this connection grow has been incredibly rewarding.
Thank you to all of you, our loyal subscribers, for your positivity, engagement and support, each week we aim to keep you informed, updated and bring a slice of Slovenia to you on your Friday mornings. We’d also like to thank all the organisations and supporters that have given VOSA the opportunity to showcase your content, and we look forward to continuing to work together.

Information for Slovenian Citizens in Australia
Death of a Slovenian Citizen – Notifying the Embassy
If a Slovenian citizen passes away in Australia, the death should be notified to the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Canberra as soon as practicable.
Email is the easiest method.

What to send first:
• A copy of the Australian Death Certificate – Apply for a death certificate | Service NSW
What the Embassy may later request:
• The original Death Certificate with an Apostille
• A certified Slovenian translation
Once processed, the death is recorded in Slovenia’s civil register.
This is important, as a deceased person may still be listed on property or other records in Slovenia without the family being aware.
Velikonočni Prazniki pri Sv.Rafaelau
Zahvaljujem se vsem, ki ste sodelovali pri obredih, pri Velikonočni procesiji in sv. maši, pri našem pirhovanju na Velikonočni Ponedeljek. Hvala našim pevcem, organistoma Damijanu Nemešu in Martinu Kondi, bralcem, mašnima pomočnikoma Jožetu Marinču in Josephu Paulu, Josephu Saamanu, Sonji Fisher, ki je postavila in okrasila božji grob, našim sosedom melkitom za cvetje ob našem oltarju, njihovima duhovnikoma Fr Georgesu in Fr Marcusu, Damijanu fortuni, ki vsako leto pripravi velikonočni ogenj.
Hvala Walterju Šuberju in Božu Žaji, ki sta nosila banderi, Andrewu Šuberju, ki je nosil kip vstalega zveličarja. Posebna zahvala Olgi Konda, ki je skuhala kosilo, Jožici Modrijančič, Tanji Resnik, Danici Grželj in Danici Petrič, Rudiju Korparju, Stanku Kolarju, Royalu in Elizabeth Herenini in še drugim, ki ste pomagali. Hvala vam, rojaki, za vašo zvestobo, molitve, voščila, darove. Lepo je uspelo in bili smo zadovoljni!

Pater Darko obvešča :
Nedelja 12.aprila je 2. Velikonočna – bela nedelja in nedelja božjega usmiljenja. Maševal bo g. Joseph Thomas iz Harris Parka. Pri sv. maši je ljudsko petje.
Ob 11.00 dopoldne je sv. maša za rojake v Queenslandu – v kapelici Marije Pomagaj v Marian Valley in srečanje z veleposlanikom g. Markom Hamom.
V Wollongongu – Figtreeju, v nedeljo, 12.4., ne bo sv. maše!
V župnijski cerkvi sv. Marjete – St. Margaret Mary’s Church v Merrylandsu je na nedeljo božjega usmiljenja, romarski shod. Pobožnosti in spovedovanje od 12.00 do 4.00 popoldne. Ob 3.00 popoldne bo tam sv. maša, ki jo bo vodil p. Richard Green, Pavlinec, Provincialni Vikar in prior iz Penrose Parka.
Kapelica Memorial and How to Donate
The committee for the restoration of the Kapelica Memorial at Rookwood cemetery met on the 22 February 2026. The committee determined that the project will be divided into 4 parts:
1. Kapelica repairs and painting – the design of the kapelica will remain the same, but repairs will be required to restore it to its original state.
2. Landscaping – the garden area in and around the Kapelica will be given a fresh look with new planting and restored seating.
3. Memorial Stone –a memorial stone will form part of the landscaping design with all the names of priests and nuns who have served at St Raphaels.
4. Funding – generosity of the Slovenian community will help us achieve our goal. Details for anyone wishing to donate are:

7:00 a.m. Sunday (QLD time): For beginners—kids learn Slovenian through songs, games, and basic grammar.
8:00 a.m. Sunday: For children aged 9+ with some Slovenian knowledge.
