This week Tour of Slovenia released the details of the upcoming tour (June 17–21) that is set to be an unforgettable test of endurance. Stretching across an epic 800-kilometre route that blends iconic locations with exciting new stages, the race will push riders to their limits with a staggering 11,000 metres of elevation gain—delivering a true challenge for both domestic and international cyclists.
A standout moment of the tour will be the ascent of Vršič mountain pass.

VOSA Newsletter: One-Year Anniversary BBQ Celebration!

Information for Slovenian Citizens in Australia
NSW Driver Licence Requirements
(Overseas Licence Holders)
If you are living in NSW and using an overseas driver licence (including a Slovenian licence), the following rules apply:
If you stay in NSW for more than 6 months, you must get a NSW driver licence to keep driving.
If you become an Australian permanent resident or citizen, you must also get a NSW driver licence.
Slovenian licences are not directly transferable in NSW. This means you will usually need to pass a knowledge test and/or driving test.
This is not unique to Slovenia. Several EU countries are treated the same way, including Croatia, Hungary, Poland and Czech Republic.
If you continue to drive after 6 months without a NSW licence, you may be considered unlicensed and penalties can apply.

Driving For Change: Car Rally for Better Kidney Disease Care
It’s that time of year again to come together to make a real difference for kids living with kidney disease. Aleks Lajovic and his mate Damien Novak are gearing up for their second Kidney Kar Rally, and this year they’ve set an ambitious goal of raising $8,000for this incredibly important cause.
The rally kicks off on August 8 in Canberra and spans eight days of adventure, challenge, and purpose—all in support of children and families who need it most.
If you’re able to spare a few dollars, your contribution would mean a lot and go a long way in making a positive impact.

Papež Leon XIV. je v sredo, 1.aprila.,2026, imenoval Sydneyskega pomožnega Skofa Msgr. Daniela Josepha Meagherja, za škofa v Rockhamptonu, QLD.
40 let škofije Parramatta
V sredo, 8.aprila, je minilo 40 let, odkar je Papež Sv. Janez Pavel II. Ustanovil našo škofijo Parramatta in škofijo Broken Bay.
Zahvalna sv. maša bo v nedeljo, 31.maja., na praznik Svete Trojice, ob 2.00 popoldne v Katedrali Sv. Patrika v Parramatti. Somaševanje bo vodil domači Skof Msgr. Vincent Long Van Nguyen O.F.M.C.
Osmrtnice (Death Notices)
On Saturday, 11.4.2026 , MOJCA KOVAČ, née PUŠPAN, passed away at the Bolton Clarke Nursing Home in Pemulwuy, NSW. She was 81 years old and was born in Libeliče, Carinthia. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, 22.4.2026, at 10:00 am at St. Raphael’s in Merrylands, with rosary at 9:30 am. She will be buried at the Slovenian lawn of St. Raphael’s at Rookwood Cemetery.
On Thursday, 16.4.2026, BOŽENA CENČIČ, née ŠUTIĆ, passed away in hospital in Auburn, NSW. She was 84 years old and was born in Gradac, Makarska Riviera, Croatia. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, 24th April, at 10:00 am at St. Raphael’s Merrylands, with a rosary at 9:30 am. She will be buried at the Slovenian lawn of St. Raphael’s Rookwood Cemetery.
Kapelica Memorial and How to Donate
The committee for the restoration of the Kapelica Memorial at Rookwood cemetery met on the 22 February 2026. The committee determined that the project will be divided into 4 parts:
1. Kapelica repairs and painting – the design of the kapelica will remain the same, but repairs will be required to restore it to its original state.
2. Landscaping – the garden area in and around the Kapelica will be given a fresh look with new planting and restored seating.
3. Memorial Stone –a memorial stone will form part of the landscaping design with all the names of priests and nuns who have served at St Raphaels.
4. Funding – generosity of the Slovenian community will help us achieve our goal. Details for anyone wishing to donate are:
