Farewell and Thank you Ambassador RS H.E. Mr. Marko Ham
As H.E. Mr. Marko Ham concludes his four-year term as Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Australia, based in Canberra, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for his dedication, kindness, and unwavering commitment to representing Slovenia and fostering strong connections within our community.Throughout his tenure, he has been much more than an official representative — he has been a warm and welcoming presence at community events and gatherings, taking a genuine interest in the people, traditions, and stories that bring the Slovenian community in Australia together.
We are grateful for the time, energy, and care he has shared with the community and wish him every success, happiness, and fulfilment as he begins the next chapter of his journey.
Before concluding his diplomatic mission in Australia, he held farewell meetings with his Australian counterparts. In this meeting with the Governor-General of Australia, both sides reaffirmed the strong and friendly relations between Slovenia and Australia, built on shared values, mutual respect and a firm commitment to the rules-based international order. They also highlighted the enduring friendship between the two countries and their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the years ahead.

The King of Cycling Wins Fifth Tour De France Recap By Zac Limare

The 2026 Tour de France once again belonged to Tadej Pogačar, with the Slovenian superstar claiming a record-equalling fifth yellow jersey after a dominant three weeks of racing. Pogačar won five stages, broke the climbing record on Alpe d’Huez and finished comfortably ahead of Remco Evenepoel, further cementing his place among cycling’s all-time greats.
Slovenia was represented by three riders this year. Jan Tratnik played a crucial support role for Red Bull–BORA–Hansgrohe throughout the race, working tirelessly on the front of the peloton and helping his team in both the mountains and on the flat stages. Matej Mohorič was aggressive as always, featuring in several breakaways and chasing stage success, while Pogačar’s brilliance ensured Slovenian cycling once again stood at the top of the sport with another historic Tour de France triumph.

If a Slovenian citizen passes away in Australia, the death should be notified to the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Canberra as soon as practicable.

What to send initially:
• A copy of the Australian Death Certificate.
• The deceased’s full name, date of birth, and if available, Slovenian passport number or EMŠO (personal identification number).
• Your contact details and your relationship to the deceased.
• Advise whether the deceased will be buried/cremated in Australia or repatriated to Slovenia.
The Embassy may later request:
• The original Death Certificate with an Apostille.
• A certified Slovenian translation.
• Any additional documents, depending on the circumstances.
• Once the documentation has been processed, the death is recorded in Slovenia’s civil register.
Registering the death in Slovenia is important, as the deceased may otherwise remain recorded in official registers, including property, inheritance, pension or other government records.

Club Triglav Mounties invites members and friends to the blessing of the young olive tree. After 53 years, this new tree replaces the original olive tree—a symbol of peace—which was blessed by Slovenian Bishop Dr. Stanislav Lenič in January 1973 during the blessing of the club’s new grounds. The blessing of the olive tree will take place on Sunday, August 16, at 2:00 PM, during the “Reunion of All Generations” event. The ceremony will be led by Father Darko Žnidaršič OFM.

Sunday, August 2nd, is the 18th Sunday of the year.
This Sunday is also the Feast of the Portiuncula—the feast of the Virgin Mary of the Angels (celebrated at the Portiuncula near Assisi).
In Wollongong (Figtree), the patron festival (žegnanje) of the Croatian Church of Mary, Queen of Peace, will take place on Saturday, August 8th. Mass at 11:00 a.m. will be celebrated by Fr. Klaudio Milohanović from St. John’s Park. A picnic will follow the Mass.
On Sunday, August 9th, the regular Slovenian Mass in Wollongong (Figtree) will be held at the Croatian Church of Mary Queen of Peace at 4:00 p.m.

Do you have a treasured family recipe that’s been passed down through generations?
We’re inviting Slovenian Australians from every state and territory to help create something truly special—a cookbook that celebrates our food, our families, and the stories that have travelled from Slovenia to Australia.
We’d love you to share:
- A favourite family recipe
- A short story about the recipe—who made it, when it was enjoyed, or why it holds a special place in your family
- A photo of the finished dish, your family, a treasured handwritten recipe card, or a special memory connected to your story
- If your recipe has been adapted for Australian ingredients, measurements or our climate, we’d love you to include those tips too. Tell us what substitutions you’ve made, any measurement conversions, or techniques you’ve found work best in Australian kitchens so others can successfully recreate your family favourite.
Our dream is to include recipes and stories from every Australian state and territory, showcasing the incredible diversity of the Slovenian Australian community from coast to coast.

Following the success of the workshop, we are exploring the possibility of establishing monthly Slovenian Folk Dance classes in Canberra and perhaps Sydney as well led by a local teacher.
This would be a wonderful opportunity to:
- Learn traditional Slovenian dances
- Connect with Slovenian culture and heritage
- Meet new people and make friends
- Enjoy a fun and active social activity
- Help preserve an important part of our cultural traditions
No previous dance experience is required, and people of all ages are welcome to express their interest.

Adults: can choose from two advanced beginner classes, one intermediate class, or a 60-hour intensive beginner course.
