Kidney Kar Rally
Day 1 and 2: Aleks Lajovic & Damien Novak’s Journey
Sunday was the first day of the rally and we successfully completed day one. We drove approx. 500km starting the morning in a chilly Canberra at 8am. We then headed to the historic town of Frogmore and then onto Crookwell for lunch. After lunch, we headed to Gundaroo with the day ending at the Impact forest where afternoon tea was served before we headed back to Canberra.

Day two of the rally was a special one as we travelled from Canberra to Tumut via the Brindabella ranges. It was a shorter day with less than 380km covered. We have 40 cars and 110 people involved in this year’s rally. They come from all walks of life and there are some very funny people present.
There is a very cool old Volvo that identifies as a Llamaghini (Llama farmers I think) and it even has the custom badge below proudly sitting on the front grill.
A Legacy of Culture, History and Heritage:
The Opening of the Fr Darko Library

Last Sunday, the St. Raphael’s Church community in Merrylands gathered for the opening and blessing of the HASA Community Library, located behind the stage in the Father Valerijan Jenko Memorial Hall. This special initiative is dedicated to Father Darko Žnidaršič, priest in residence & Head of the Slovenian Mission in Merrylands.
HASA NSW President Olga Lah spoke proudly and passionately about the library’s purpose: preserving our history, culture and heritage and ensuring our stories and traditions are passed on to future generations. Father Darko then officially opened and blessed the library with a prayer, marking a meaningful moment for the community.

Congratulations to the HASA NSW team on all their efforts, in particular Olga Lah, Mimi de Rooy, Michelle Šusteršič and Kristine Šuber. It is because of these individuals and others that our rich history, stories and traditions will be accessible for future generations.
It was a wonderful occasion celebrating community, heritage and the lasting legacy of those who have helped shape our Slovenian community in Australia.
Come and explore the variety of books at the new library.

Rookwood Cemetery- Slovenian St Raphael Lawn 3
Our forward-thinking Franciscan priests had the foresight to arrange dedicated lawn areas at Rookwood Cemetery for members of our Slovenian community. Slovenian Lawns 1 and 2 are now full.
The only burial plots still available within the Slovenian lawn areas are in Slovenian St Raphael Lawn, also known as Slovenian Lawn 3.
There are still plots available, however it is not known how long the remaining plots will continue to be available specifically for members of our Slovenian community.
A Monumental Lawn Grave in St Raphael Lawn may accommodate up to three coffin burials, or up to five cremated remains, subject to the cemetery’s requirements.
The plots are offered with a Perpetual Interment Right. This means the right of interment does not expire and there are no annual renewal fees.If you or your family would like to be buried within our Slovenian St Raphael Lawn, you may wish to consider purchasing a plot while they are still available.
