Multicultural Festival 2026 – A Wonderful Success
The Slovenian Australian Association of Canberra was thrilled to be part of the three-day Multicultural Festival 2026, which proved to be an outstanding success. The atmosphere was vibrant, the crowds were fantastic, and the community spirit was truly on display.
We were delighted to sell out of our famous Kranjski Rolls and Slovenian beers, with festival goers enthusiastically enjoying a taste of Slovenia. Due to this overwhelming support, we were unfortunately unable to trade on Sunday.

Our parade appearance was especially memorable, proudly showcasing our Kurent costume, all the way from Ptuj, Slovenia, which drew wonderful interest and celebration of Slovenian tradition.
A sincere thank you to everyone who visited our stall, supported us, and helped showcase Slovenian culture so proudly.

Call for Cricketers- SCA
The Slovene Cricket Association (SCA) is currently identifying eligible diaspora cricketers in Australia who may be interested in representing Slovenia in upcoming international competitions. Players are eligible to represent Slovenia if they either hold a Slovene passport or were born in Slovenia.
Slovenia will be participating in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, scheduled to take place in May 2026 in Cyprus.

Pater Darko obvešča :
Nedelja 15. Februarja je 6. nedelja med letom. Pri sv. maši je ljudsko petje.
Po sv. maši ste lepo vabljeni v našo dvorano na pustne krofe in druženje.
Ob 6.00 zvečer je sv. maša v Canberri. Tam bo prejela prvo sv. obhajilo Zoja Draksler. Prvo obhajanki in družini iskrene čestititke !
V sredo je pepelnica, začetek postnega časa. Ta dan je strogi post. Sv. maši z obredom pepelenja bosta ob 9.30 dopoldne in ob 7.00 zvečer.
V četrtek molimo križev pot ob 10.00 dopoldne pred sv. mašo ob 10.30 . Ob petkih pa ob 6.30 pred sv. mašo ob 7. zvečer.
Postna postava: strogi post (od 18. do začetega 60. leta): samo enkrat na dan se najemo do sitega in se zdržimo mesnih jedi. Zadržek od mesnih jedi (od 14. leta dalje) je ob petkih. Zunaj postnega časa ga lahko zamenjamo s kakim drugim dobrim delom, molitvijo, pomočjo bližnjemu, ali darom v dober namen. V slučaju cerkvenega ali državnega praznik, ali pogreba post in zadržek odpadeta.
Prihodnjo nedeljo, 22.2., bo pri sv. maši blagoslov otrok in šolskih torb. Lepo vabljeni, da z bogom začnemo novo šolsko leto in vsako naše delo.
V nedeljo, 22.2 po maši, bo sestanek za obnovitvena dela kapelice na Slovenskem delu pokopališču v Rookwoodu, strehe in stropa cerkvene dvorane in obeh zvonikov.
Osmrtnice (Death Notice)
On Saturday, 24.1.2026, KATARINA – KATI MENIČ, née CENČIČ, died in Merrylands. She was 95 years old and was from Borjana in Slovenia. The funeral mass was celebrated on Monday, 9.2.2026, at 10:00 am at St. Raphael’s Merrylands.
On Wednesday, 4.2.2026 FRANČIŠKA – FRANCKA MRAMOR, née FLAJNIK, died at the Alkira Gardens nursing home in Miranda, NSW. She was 92 years old and was born in Perudina near Vinica in Bela Krajina. The funeral mass was celebrated yesterday, at 12:30 p.m, in the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Rookwood. She will be buried in the old Slovenian cemetery.
On Tuesday, 10.2.2026, at the Whiddon Eastern Park Nursing Home in Glenfield, NSW, JOSIP CAR, aged 89, passed away. He was from the village of Griče in Croatia. The funeral mass will be held on TUESDAY, 17.2.2026, at 10:00 am at St. Raphael’s in Merrylands, with a rosary at 9:30 am. He will be buried in the old Slovenian cemetery in Rookwood.
