Slovenian Elections to the National Assembly – 22 March 2026
1 .Voting papers are sent by post
All Slovenian citizens living in Australia who have their Australian address correctly registered in the Slovenian register as a permanent address were sent voting papers from Slovenia and should receive them before the elections.
2. How to vote
You have two ways to vote in the upcoming elections:
Option 1 – Vote in person
You may vote in person at the Embassy of Slovenia in Canberra, at the official polling station, on the day of the elections (22 March 2026), between 7 am and 7 pm.
Option 2 – Vote by post
Follow the instructions you receive with the voting papers and send your vote either directly to Slovenia or to the Embassy of Slovenia in Canberra. It is recommended you send it to the Embassy, which will forward it to Slovenia by diplomatic mail so that the votes arrive in time to be counted in the election results.
Important to remember: Your voting papers must be posted before the polling station closes
(7:00 pm) on voting day. If they are posted later, the vote will not be valid.
3. Your data in Slovenian register
If you are not sure about your data in the Slovenian register (such as the registered address) you can contact the Embassy that will check your data and correct it if necessary.

Pustna Nedelja Pri Sv. Rafaelu v Merrylandsu
Pust is one of the most popular holidays in Slovenia. A long-standing tradition, Pust symbolises the farewell to winter and the welcoming of spring. Slovenians around the world dress up in costumes and masks, attend events and festivals, and take part in centuries-old traditions. Approximately 3–5 million doughnuts are sold in Slovenia during the carnival season each year.
Last Sunday, St Raphael’s marked Pust with doughnuts and coffee in the hall after mass. Heartfelt thanks to Josie Modrijančič, Jenny Stariha and Olga Konda for the love, care and countless hours they devoted to preparing these delicious doughnuts. Their dedication and generous contributions are a true asset to our community, and we are deeply grateful for all they so selflessly give.

Pater Darko obvešča :
Nedelja 22. Februarja je 1. postna nedelja, blagoslov otrok in šolskih torb. Pri sv. maši je ljudsko petje.
Nedelja 22. Februarja bo po sv. maši sestanek za obnovitvena dela: kapelica na našem pokopališču v rookwoodu, streha in strop naše dvorane in oba zvonika.
Križev pot molimo vsak četrtek ob 10.00 dopoldne in vsak petek ob 6.30 zvečer, nato je sv. maša.
Češčenje najsvetejšega je vsak petek v postnem času od 6.00 do 6.30 zvečer.
V postnem času tudi ne bomo pozabili na našo postno akcijo “project compassion”. šparovčke dobite po sv. maši.
Osmrtnice (Death Notice)
On Monday, 9.2.2026, MARTIN SIMČIČ, aged 95, died at Ryde Hospital, NSW. He was born in Gorizia. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, 3.3.2026, at 10:00 am at St. Raphael’s in Merrylands. He will be buried at the St Raphael’s Slovenian lawn at Rookwood Cemetery.
Kapelica Restoration & Memorial Stone project
Pater Darko has expressed his wish for the restoration of the Kapelica and a Memorial Stone at Rookwood to include the names of the dedicated priests and nuns who served at St Raphael’s.

VOSA Radio’s road trip to Adelaide!
Tania and Branko were delighted to join the vibrant Pust celebrations at the Slovenian Club Adelaide last Sunday, sharing in the festivities and connecting with the local Slovenian community and with Slovenians who use to live in Sydney.
